Master the mechanics of Bark Vader. Learn how to survive the disabled-weapons phase, crush his healing pylons, and secure your Tier 3 Forest clear in Megabonk.
The Forest map is one of the most accessible environments in Megabonk, right until you hit Tier 3. The final boss of this tier, Bark Vader, introduces a punishing mechanic that acts as a hard "build-check" for new and experienced players alike. If you distribute your upgrades poorly, Bark Vader is mathematically impossible to beat.
The moment you step through the boss portal to face Bark Vader, he completely disables every secondary weapon you picked up during the run.
Have a maxed-out Aura? Disabled. A legendary Shotgun? Gone. You are forced to fight the Tier 3 boss utilizing ONLY the starting weapon intrinsic to the character you picked.
Because of this brutal lockdown, your entire approach to the 20-minute run leading up to the boss must change. You cannot treat the Forest Tier 3 like a normal run where you spread your upgrade points naturally across 4 to 6 different weapons.
To prepare for Bark Vader, you must heavily invest in upgrading your character's primary starting weapon from Wave 1. If you are offered a choice between unlocking a new weapon or adding a level to your starter, always level the starter. By the time you reach the boss portal (indicated by red swirling threads leading you to it), your primary weapon should ideally be maxed out or very close to it.
Bark Vader will periodically cloak himself in an invulnerable shield. Simultaneously, three crystalline pylons (or shrines) will spawn at the edges of the arena. While active, these pylons rapidly heal the boss.
Counter-play: You must immediately stop hitting the boss and sprint to the pylons. Destroy all three as quickly as possible. Having high movement speed (Agility Tome) and the Wrench item (which melts structures) is incredibly beneficial here.
When vulnerable, the boss sends homing orbs that deal contact damage, and casts laser barrages from the ground that will knock your character into the air, leading to a deadly juggle combo.
Counter-play: Do not rely on Lifesteal (Bloody Tome) for this fight. Since the boss goes immune frequently and you only have one weapon, your lifesteal uptime is terrible. Instead, rely on massive Health Pools (HP Tome), Shields, and Regeneration to survive the inevitable hits while you run between pylons.
Since your success hinges entirely on how good your character's starter weapon is, picking the right character is half the battle.
Starter: The Banana
Why Monke? The Banana is a boomerang-style projectile that tracks, pieces, and hits multiple times. When heavily upgraded with Quantity, Damage, and Cooldown Tomes, the Banana provides enough constant single-target DPS to burst down the Healing Pylons and melt Bark Vader without needing you to aim perfectly while dodging lasers.
A: This is Bark Vader's core mechanic. Upon entering the boss arena, he disables all of your secondary weapons. You are forced to fight him using only your character's primary starting weapon.
A: Bark Vader goes immune and spawns three pylons/shrines around the arena. These pylons heal him consistently. You must sprint to and destroy all three pylons as quickly as possible to drop his shield and stop the regeneration.
A: Defeating Bark Vader yields a massive amount of Silver (used for talent tree unlocks and buying characters), high-tier item chests, and counts as the official completion marker for the difficult Tier 3 Forest progression.
